OMG Trip Report
Salt Lake City, Utah
February 9, 1998
Craig Thompson
Craig Thompson participated in the OMG meeting held in Salt Lake City on
February 9-13, 1998 but stayed only on Monday, February 9, to chair the
OMG Internet SIG meeting. See separate OMG
Internet SIG minutes.
Connections made:
-
Ravi Condamoor (Oracle, rcondamo@us.oracle.com, 650-506-5837), who worked
on Open OODB for a summer in the later 1980s, described some work they
are doing on distributed servlets that use a proxy architecture, possibly
similar to ours, TBD.
-
Bapa Rao (Trusted Information Systems, brao@tis.com, 310-737-1744 ext 148)
is working with BBN on an AITS Policy Server that genericizes policy managers,
so that the policy manager does not know about the policy semantics for
policies it manages, nor itself guarantees policy enforcement but does
insure secure policy management using a persistent repository of policies.
He asked for help in connecting his work into the AITS architecture (which
is funding the work) and into OMG. I will alert Signori that this is a
candidate for tech transfer to OMG and Internet SIG can sponsor a talk
and might then author an RFP for a Policy Manager Facility with help from
Rao.

Henry Rothkopf (MITRE) invited me to visit MITRE when next in Washington
DC to get a demo of MITRE's Collaborative Virtual Workspace (CVW), a rooms-based
MUD.
